EGYPT'S LIBERATION
The Philosophy of the Revolution

written by Nasser and published by Public Affairs Press, Washington, D.C., 1955.

"So far this man remains pure. Pure, faithful, and brave. . . .Abdul Nasser means servant of the Victorious One: Servant of God Victorious. May it be so."
from the Introduction by Dorothy Thompson

The Revolution was dramatic but perhaps more dramatic was Nasser's Egyptianization of the Suez Canal -- the canal was representative of the exploitation of Egypt by European powers for centuries. By claiming the canal for Egypt, securing it, and running the canal subsequently, Nasser made good on his promise to improve the everyday lives of the masses. Pride of ownership was only one aspect of this effort; pride of country, pride of leadership, pride of person was enormously improved. As mentioned in Related Links, Nasser's Suez Canal speech can be heard on his Homepage and I am linking it separately here for ease of access.
